The sequel cast expanded to include Donnie Yen as Detective Chen, who becomes Lee's partner in the film. He is dressed in traditional Chinese attire. Lee also gets his own partner, played by Chin Han. Han has an increasingly prominent role in this movie. The story was set in Paris versus San Francisco, which are two primary cities that are not connected by public transportation but are physically close to each other. The change of setting was to keep it fresh for the franchise's fans who have grown accustomed to sequels being set in Los Angeles or New York City. The sequel also received a "PG-13" rating from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) for comic violence and brief language throughout the film. Rush Hour 3 grossed $499 million in North America and $268.5 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of US$854.5 million, against its US$68 million budget. Its worldwide weekend-to-weekend gross was $46.4 million, which was an improvement over the studio's expectations. Its international opening weekend was a franchise low at $15.9 million, but then dropped 62% in its second weekend to $7.04 million, one of the worst losses among new releases.
